20 x 24" and 40 x 50" Fujiflex print, edition 10
The photo-based images from this series are derived from the ubiquitous "Wish you were here" postcards from the 1960s and 70s. Through the use of digital technology, fragments from the postcards are enlarged, added to, subtracted from and manipulated to create a nostalgic effect in a highly abstract contemporary medium. My aim is to translate the strange and sentimental occurrences in life through the fictional narrative of the family vacation. My process draws upon many visual references-- film, video, photography, commercial printmaking and the digital image. This "sampling" is reflective of the means in which we communicate at high speed and over great distances-- all the while becoming distorted, pixilated and several generations removed from the original experiences that were recorded.
