The CACTI series comes from my long-time interest in the non-object and capturing the memory of a thing. In the merging of two disparate materials, plaster casting and a found object container, there is a beautiful contrast that is created. Ideas of the cacti’s strength and resiliency amid scarcity is unified with vessels signifying prosperity and abundance. Contrary to a cacti’s symbolic durability, the plaster forms made from originally casting clay, are inherently fragile in nature and yet cannot be hurt by neglect or lack of care.
